Upon the occasion of her 100th birthday, international philanthropist Kathryn W. Davis chose to celebrate by committing $1 million to Projects for Peace.
Now in its sixth year, the Davis Projects for Peace continue to support and encourage today's motivated youth to create and test their own ideas for building peace. For more information, visit the Davis Projects for Peace Website
Compassionate Labor in Liberia is a Davis Project for the summer of 2013. This project was designed to address high rates of maternal mortality in Nimba County Liberia, as well as to address mistrust among residents and a lack of confidence in medical establishments. Training will be conducted for healthcare providers in compassionate labor support, an adaptation of the Doula model, and layered alongside the existing healthcare model. This program aims to empower women, build relationships and facilitate trust in healthcare.
